“Julie Presented with Special University Award”
As previously intimated on 15 November, Julie has been named as the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) Alumnus of the Year. This special annual award is given to a former student for services to the community, achievements in arts or sciences, business or in public or academic life.
Julie was presented with her award by the University’s Chancellor, HRH The Princess Royal, at the organisation’s Foundation Day; which celebrates the achievements of its staff, students and supporters. The event was held in the Nevis Centre in Fort William yesterday (Tuesday 26 November) with more than 250 invited guests in attendance.
Speaking about her award, Julie said: “It's a huge honour to be named as Alumnus of the Year. I felt very proud to be one of the first year graduates from our newly formed University of the Highlands and Islands in 2011 and, through continued work as artist in residence with the digital archive project Tobar an Dualchais based at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI, I have enjoyed keeping up those links with the university.”
The university also presented four honorary fellowships at the ceremony and one of the recipients was fashion designer Sandra Murray MBE, who designed several special outfits for Julie to wear on her ‘red carpet’ Premiere appearances for Disney-Pixar’s ‘Brave’ last year.
The following is a direct link to the official University announcement:
We have just heard that a Motion was lodged in the Scottish Parliament by John Finnie, the Highlands and Islands Independent MSP, on 26 November; congratulating Julie for being named Alumnus of the Year 2013 by the UHI and wishing her well in her future endeavours. Julie is of course honoured by this recognition of her Award.
