“Julie Celebrates Sorley MacLean at Bath International Music Festival”

Several weeks ago, we announced a welcome return for Julie to the Bath International Music Festival on Thursday 31 May, following a sold-out house at the Assembly Rooms for her last performance in 2009.

This is just a final reminder about this very special concert which celebrates the centenary year of Sorley MacLean, one of the most distinguished and innovative of all Gaelic poets. Born on the Island of Raasay, his upbringing was rooted in Gaelic culture and its rich songs. His poetry speaks of love, choice, suffering and injustice, and his politics welded together with his own intense personal feelings produced poetry of international stature.

In an atmospheric evening of words and music, prepared especially for the Festival, Julie will perform a mix of traditional and new songs in honour of Sorley, as well as music from her best-selling albums. She will be joined onstage by ‘Narrator’ Jo MacDonald, award winning Gaelic producer and broadcaster and a trustee of the Sorley MacLean Trust; and acclaimed musicians Duncan Chisholm on fiddle and Tony Byrne playing acoustic guitar.

Bath Assembly Rooms 8.00 – 10.00pm Tickets £18, £10 (Concessions available) online via or via the Festival Box Office – Tel: 01225 463362

“Julie to feature in new Disney Pixar film BRAVE”

Julie is delighted to officially announce her involvement in the new Disney•Pixar’s epic fantasy adventure “Brave” set in the ancient Highlands of Scotland.  This incredible animated 3D film, which is due for release in the US on June 22nd and in Europe from August, features a stellar cast including Kelly MacDonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Craig Ferguson and Kevin McKidd.

Julie and husband Éamon Doorley have enjoyed working closely with the Disney Pixar US production team and musicians on both sides of the pond in the recording and performance of two original songs for the movie, which were composed by Pixar's own Alex Mandel and which reflect the feisty main character, Merida.  The soundtrack to the film was created by Oscar-nominated composer Patrick Doyle (Harry Potter, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Thor), and also features the two original songs performed by Julie, and a third original song (which plays during the film’s epilogue) and is performed by singing sensation Birdy with British folk rock band Mumford & Sons.

Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, BRAVE is set to put Scotland firmly on the map this Summer!
