“Julie's 'Blas 2011' Commission 'Heisgeir' Performances Imminent!!”

Julie has been very busy over the past few weeks, preparing for her forthcoming special Commission performances of ‘Heisgeir’ at this year's 'Blas 2011' Festival; and with the first of her unique performances taking place in Beauly tomorrow evening (Friday 9 Sep) at 7.30pm, the clock is ticking and the final countdown to an incredible experience has now commenced!!

This new musical work will combine newly composed and traditional material influenced by Heisgeir (or The Monach Isles as they are often referred to). Building on her own family connections to Heisgeir, Julie has taken inspiration from the geography, history and legend of these now uninhabited islands to produce a new musical work. Using lyrical, filmic, narrative and musical devices to bring different aspects of the work to life, ‘Heisgeir’ will feature acclaimed musicians Éamon Doorley, Ross Martin and Duncan Chisholm.

Julie will be performing ‘Heisgeir’ on 4 consecutive dates, commencing with the 'premier' concert in Beauly on Friday 9 September; followed by performances in Torridon (10th), Dornoch (11th) and Glenfinnan (12th). These 'special' performances should not be missed and you can find full details and direct weblinks, etc, at Julie's 'Tour Dates' page.  There is still time (just) to get your tickets organised (where available)!!

“From a Wet Hampden Park to Sunny Spain!!”

Singing in the rain............well that certainly was Julie when she was honoured to sing 'Flower of Scotland' before the Scotland v Denmark International football 'friendly' at Hampden Park last Wednesday (10 August). Julie hopes that her performance of Scotland's National Anthem helped in some way to the team's well deserved victory.

Julie would also like to thank all at the SFA for inviting her to sing before the game and for all at Hampden Park for looking after her so very well before, during and after the event. She would also like to take this opportunity of thanking all individual fans and Supporters Clubs, etc, for their many messages of thanks and support for her performance, received since last Wednesday night; all very much appreciated.

Now, from wet and poor weather in Scotland, Julie and the band are very pleased to be heading to sunny Spain this weekend. Julie is delighted to be performing at the XV11 Festival Sauga Folk in Colindres, which is in beautiful Cantabria, Spain on Saturday 20 August and all information about the Festival can be found via the following link: www.sauga.es/festival.htm

“Julie Sings on BBC TV's 'Songs of Praise' plus the National Anthem at Hampden Park”

No sooner has Julie returned safely to dry land following her week on the high seas as part of the successful ‘Cape Farewell’ expedition, than she has appeared on our TV screens.

Amid the excitement of last week, we forgot to tell you in advance, that Julie was to feature in the BBC TV’s ‘Songs of Praise – Fife’s Famous’programme which was broadcast on Sunday 7 August at 5.00pm.

The programme saw presenter Sally Magnusson, making her first visit to the historic Kingdom of Fife in Scotland, birthplace of one of the world’s richest men (Andrew Carnegie), who gave away vast amounts of his fortune. The programme featured hymns and songs from both Dunfermline Abbey and St Andrew’s University.

The good news however, is that courtesy of the BBC TV iPlayer, you can still watch the programme and Julie singing in Dunfermline Abbey, as it will be available until Sunday 14 August at 5.34pm, and for ease of viewing, the direct link is as follows: http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b01383hd/

The other big news is that Julie has been given the huge honour of singing Scotland's National Anthem 'Flower of Scotland' at the Scotland v Denmark International football match this Wednesday August 10th.  This will be broadcast live on Sky Sports 2 at 7.30pm. We wish the lads all the best for the game!
